From one of the founding members of Hudson Records and the second artist to release on the label, July's exclusive is from Sheffield’s own Neil McSweeney. It was recorded in July in Tesla Studios, Sheffield by Andy Bell and Neil is joined by another great Sheffield songwriter, singer and musician (who is distributed by Hudson) Mark Stoney. These tracks have all appeared on previous albums of Neil’s but these are new acoustic incarnations. 'London Road’ is one of Neil’s crowd pleasers from his first album, if you’ve been to one of his shows you will have sung along, London road is just down the way from where Hudson Records is based so we particularly love that track. Grab a cuppa and take a listen to this month’s club exclusive from one of Hudson and Sheffield’s best songwriters!

this album has been the soundtrack to my last five months. my favorite track varies from day to day and mood to mood, but moths in the gaslight is always near the top. there's something very lived in about the world that boden paints with this one, and the thread of yearning that trails throughout brings this open sort of tenderness to an otherwise burning world, which just feels endlessly, beautifully human. sophie
